High Performance Program Graduate, Troy Henry, Signs Rookie Contract With Sussex Cricket

Troy, who was previously captain of the ACE team, traveled out to Adelaide, Australia back in October 2023 to start his intense cricket training alongside players from all over the world. During his time on the program focusing on his spin bowling and batting, Troy was trained by Joe Root’s former coach and High Performance Director, Shaun Seigert, across a 10 week period in the Australian summer. After his return to the UK, Troy has now accomplished a contract following the open trials at Sussex! 

 

High Performance Director, Shaun Seigert, commented, “Troy Henry attended the Root Academy in 2023-24 in Adelaide, Australia. Troy was a hard worker, keen to learn, and a good leader in our group that year. As a left arm spinner and middle order batsmen I wish him well in his journey with Sussex, and hope he continues to develop and succeed with the opportunity that he has now earned.” 

 

Coach Shaun Seigert, has over 17 years experience producing professional cricketers and has seen many high-level cricketers graduate from the program. By continuously encouraging the 3 main philosophies; Find a way, push comfort zones, and develop character, the High Performance Program has resulted in 200 first class cricket player graduates and 32 international cricket player graduates. 

 

Joe Root, who joined the High Performance Program in 2009 to 2010, had yet to play first class cricket but was part of the England Under 19’s set-up when he travelled to Adelaide for a winter of training under the tutelage of Shaun. As he progressed his development excelled. Joe thrived in the structure of the program as his training and understanding of what he needed to do to be successful stood out. After his development over the 2009/10 winter, upon his return to England, Joe quickly made his mark, making his first class debut and progressing through to the England Lions set up in 2010.
