Top 10 R66T Academy Moments of 2023

What a year 2023 was for The R66T Academy! We delivered a host of Coaching Camps, launched a brand new E-Learning platform, created a wide range of new Training Aids, filmed with some of cricket’s brightest stars, as well as loads more!
Reflecting on the past year, we’ve compiled a list - in no particular order - of our Top 10 R66T Academy moments in 2023…
1. Coaching Camps
In 2023, we hosted, co-promoted and sponsored more than 25 Coaching Camps around the globe! From our Fast Bowling Series in Sheffield to our Coaching Camp in Amsterdam, our coaches worked with thousands of cricketers - ranging from beginners to elite players.
It was amazing to see players work on their skills, but equally as important, it was incredible to witness cricketers from around the world build friendships and train together to improve!
2. The Root Family Filming Day [coming soon]
You might have seen our teaser post on social media before Christmas, but in case you didn't, we recently spent an afternoon filming new content with Matt, Joe and Billy Root! The trio sat down together for a round-table conversation about all things cricket, before heading into the nets to take part in a series of cricketing challenges.
We’ve got a host of new videos coming out in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out across our social media channels!
3. Level 3 Coaching Diploma
In August, we announced the Qualifi Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Cricket Coaching. Our online course is an Ofqual regulated qualification, making it unlike any other cricket coaching course in the world, and one that will stand out on any cricket coaches CV.
Several coaches have already enrolled on the Diploma, and are currently working through content developed by R66T Academy coaches including Shaun Seigert, High Performance Director and former coach of Joe Root.
4. Ben Duckett Filming Day
In May, The R66T Academy – in partnership with the Barmy Army – invited three young cricketers to train with England batter Ben Duckett. Harry, Harri and Jessica were all picked at random after entering our exciting competition!
The trio had the chance to share a net with the England opener for one hour at Trent Bridge. Alongside a R66T Academy Coach, Ben helped the players work on their technique and improve their batting and fielding skills. He also competed against the players in a fielding drill!
Moreover, the winners also received some special Barmy Army x Emprise Teamwear merchandise items!
5. T20 Tournament
The inaugural R66T Academy T20 Tournament - which took place last summer - was a huge success!
It took place at Abbeydale Park in Sheffield, with four teams competing for the inaugural winners trophy. Each player was drafted into a franchise team and had their own unique playing shirt. In the morning, we held two semi-finals, with the fixtures generated at random. It was Archer's ACE's and Duckett’s Diamonds who made it to the showpiece final, with the former coming out on top in the afternoon.
We are delighted that The R66T Academy T20 Cup will return in 2024 - only this time, it will be even bigger and better! We have confirmed 5 venues!
6. High Performance Program
Our well-established High Performance Program saw players from around the world travel to Adelaide, Australia. They followed in the footsteps of professional and international players including Joe Root.
It was great to see our elite players thriving in difficult conditions and pushing themselves to achieve their potential. The group trained tirelessly throughout the week and played with a local club at the weekend across the two 10-week long seasons.
7. State School Opportunities
Our work with state schools is one of the most important things we do. At The R66T Academy, we are passionate about giving children of all ages, genders, ethnicities and abilities the chance to play and enjoy cricket. It has been pleasing to see the ECB recognise the significance of cricket in our maintained education sector.
In 2023, we supported The Fred Trueman R66T Academy State School Cricket League, collaborated with the YCB to run the inaugural YCB R66T to Hardball event and supported events initiatives at Netherfield Cricket Club, Sheffield Collegiate CC, Dynamo's Cricket and loads more!
8. USA Camps
As cricket continues to grow in popularity in America, it was pleasing to run four different Coaching Camps in the USA in 2023!
Led by High Performance Director Shaun Sigert, the R66T Academy worked with clubs/venues in Chicago, Texas, Baltimore and New Jersey last year, while also running a camp in Victoria, Canada!
There was a wide variety of abilities on show - with some players at the start of their cricket journey, while others were looking to take the next step in their development. We are proud that our coaches can cater for all ages and abilities!
9. Catchit Goal and other new products
The Catchit Goal, which was released in 2023, is one of our latest innovative products! It was one of our most popular products last year, with cricketers of all abilities and ages making the most of the multi-use Training Aid. The Rebound side helps develop hand-eye coordination and improves catching skills, while the goal side helps players work on their fielding, batting and bowling accuracy.
Alongside the Catchit Goal, we also launched a range of other products last year, including our Catching Bat, Coaches Mitt, stumps and balls range and loads more. We’ve got a variety of new Training Aids in the pipeline, so keep checking out our online store.
10. Tours
In 2023, The R66T Academy began creating bespoke cricket packages for teams travelling to the United Kingdom. Our tours can be tailored to each individual group’s requirements and we take all the hassle away from clubs, schools and academies.
As well as our bespoke UK tours, we can also organise trips to Desert Springs Resort in Spain. The facilities are truly incredible, and it is a brilliant spot for players to work on their game in different conditions to what they are used to.
