10 things to look out for from The R66T Academy in 2024
Posted on 16th January 2024 at 13:34
Having reflected on 2023, it only makes sense to look ahead to 2024! This next year promises to be a special 12 months for The R66T Academy, with loads of exciting events already confirmed - and many more to come!
We’re running even more Coaching Camps than last year, launching our first-ever full-time Academy, working even closer with State Schools, offering incredible competitions with our Training Aids and so much more.
So, in no particular order, here’s 10 things to look out for from The R66T Academy in 2024…
1. Coaching Camps
After being directly involved in more than 25 Coaching Camps, Series’ and events last year, we’re going for even more in 2024! We’ve already launched a number of camps - both in the UK and abroad - and there’s several more in the pipeline.
In addition to our own R66T Academy camps, we will once again be working with our amazing partners to give children even more opportunities to play and enjoy cricket around the world.
2. R66T Dubai Cup
The inaugural 2024 R66T Dubai Cup sold out towards the end of last year, and the tournament is now fast approaching! In partnership with inspiresport, we will be welcoming a host of U15 teams from around the globe to compete for the prestigious trophy in the UAE.
Players will have the opportunity to enjoy the stunning sights of Dubai, but the focus will certainly be on the cricket! Fixtures will be played at the ICC Academy Stadium and Dubai Seven Stadium, alongside coaching from R66T Academy Coaches.
Missed out this year? You can also register your interest for the 2025 edition here!
3. Level 3 Coaching Diploma
With winter nets starting up and down the country, and the UK cricket season fast approaching, we wanted to support coaches - new and old - with their coaching development.
To celebrate the start of the New Year, we’re offering a £100 voucher to use on our online shop to ALL coaches who enrol on the Qualifi Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Cricket Coaching before the start of the new campaign.
Our Level 3 Diploma is an Ofqual regulated qualification, making it unlike any other cricket coaching course in the world, and one that will stand out on any cricket coaches CV.
4. Olympic R66T Academy
We teased the Olympic R66T Academy last year, and the full-time Academy will officially launch in 2024! It will provide players with expert coaching, based upon the principles of our High Performance Program in Adelaide, alongside training in the state-of-the-art facilities at Olympic Indoor Sports.
The Academy will be based in Columbia, USA, with players training two/three times a week and matches arranged on weekends. It will be open to players aged six to 19, and we will have U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 teams representing the Academy in competitive matches. There will be up to two games played on weekends during the summer season!
5. Festival of Cricket
We’re incredibly excited to be working with inspiresport on our Festival of Cricket in April! The three-day festival will take place at our two regional venues - Millfield Prep School and Worksop College.
The full-board package includes coaching sessions and matches against other touring teams. After such a successful inaugural event, the 2024 Festival of Cricket promises to be even bigger and better!
We still have limited spaces remaining at Worksop College, so get in touch if you are interested.
6. The R66T Academy Anniversary
On February 11th, it will be six years since The R66T Academy was founded! We’re busy planning for our special day, and while we aren’t going to give too much information away just yet, we can tell you that it’s going to be big!
We’ve got some exciting competitions planned - so make sure to keep an eye out next month.
7. R66T Academy T20 Cup
The inaugural R66T Academy T20 Tournament was a huge success. This year, though, it’s going to be even bigger and better!
Our first-ever T20 competition took place at Abbeydale Park in Sheffield, with four teams - comprising of 12 players from different cricket clubs from around the country - competing for the inaugural winners trophy.
The 2024 Cup will consist of several regional qualifiers, which will be held at cricket venues up and down the country. It will conclude with a Finals Day - held later in the year - where we will crown the inaugural winners of the tournament.
8. High Performance Program
Our High Performance Program is currently taking place in Adelaide, Australia, with players travelling from all over the world to take part in the program led by Shaun Seigert - the former coach of Joe Root.
The 2023/24 cohort have all improved their game since the start of the program in October, and they will be out in Australia until March, and from there, hopefully up the cricket ladder!
We have a break during Australia’s Autumn and Winter months, but we will be back in action for the 2024/25 program in October of this year! If you’re interested, you can secure your spot today!
9. State Schools Opportunities
We are incredibly proud of the work we do with state schools, and we will continue to work hard to ensure as many children as possible have the opportunity to get involved with our amazing sport!
In 2024, we will once again be involved with The Fred Trueman R66T Academy State School Cricket League, which is expanding across Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and North and South Cambridgeshire. Meanwhile, the Yorkshire Cricket Board R66T to Hardball competition will also be bigger and better - with more teams involved. Our partner, SHAPE Learning, is also running a R66T to Hardball competition in Chesterfield - aiming to get more kids active and playing cricket!
Away from the field, we will be involved with fundraising events to support all of these projects in order to cater for the increased demand in interest in the sport. We’re delighted the ECB are undertaking a full review of State School Cricket, and we look forward to seeing their recommendations.
10. R66T Day
In a similar fashion to our Anniversary Day, we aren’t going to give away too much about the ‘R66T Day’. If you fancy a challenge, you can try and work out exactly when it will take place. The clue is very much in the name!
